Pope Francis was examined for fear of having the corona disease and was found not to be infected with the deadly virus, the Italian newspaper Al Massero said on Tuesday.

The suspicion that the pope was infected with the virus, which caused dozens of deaths in Italy, rose last week after Francis canceled several important official events claiming he was not feeling well

The papacy was also documented as sneezing, coughing and sweating, some of the symptoms typical of corona disease, just days after coming into contact with a large crowd at an event in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

"We will not check all corona samples"

Matthew Bruni, the official spokesman for the Vatican City refused to comment on publications, in accordance with the Holy See's practice of not disclosing personal details about the Pope's condition.

The number of people infected with the Corona virus in Italy crossed 2,000 yesterday and the number of dead in the country now stands at 54. Italy is the country most severely affected by the virus on the continent of Europe and some northern towns and neighborhoods are being quarantined.
