The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today ratified in Lausanne (Switzerland) that this year's Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo, as planned, despite the coronavirus epidemic affecting much of the world. "The IOC will continue to follow the advice of the WHO (World Health Organization), as the principal United Nations agency on this issue," says the statement released Tuesday by the IOC.

Despite the rumors of the last days of different leaders, the IOC confirmed that the Games will be without problems and that the necessary precautions will be taken against the coronavirus.
"The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee today expressed its full commitment to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games , which will take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020," the official website of the Olympic Games announced.
"In mid-February a joint working group had already been created that involved the IOC, Tokyo 2020, the host city of Tokyo, the government of Japan and the World Health Organization (WHO)," the statement said.
The counter does not stop, less and less days are missing for Tokyo 2020.
In addition, it ensures that the IOC executive committee "appreciates and supports" measures to organize the Games in a safe and secure manner.
However, they do not deny the existence of difficulties with the epidemic: "We continue to work closely to address the challenges of the coronavirus . "
They also encourage athletes to "continue preparing for the Games" and invite them to the Athlete365 section of the official page of the Olympic Games where they have all the information and care against the coronavirus.
