(CNN Spanish) - "We are preparing for a successful Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020". This was announced by Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the desire to move forward with plans to organize this year's Olympic meeting in Japan despite the threat of the coronavirus.
The IOC began on Tuesday a two-day meeting of the Executive Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, to assess the threat of the virus in the face of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Both the IOC and the organizers have repeatedly stressed that the appointment in Tokyo, scheduled between Friday, July 24 and Sunday, August 9, will take place as planned.

Speaking on February 27, Bach insisted that when it comes to questions about postponing the Games or exploring Plan B, he was not going to feed the speculation.

“I will not add fuel to the flames of speculation. The IOC, in cooperation with all the authorities and the National Olympic Committees (NOC), is fully committed to the Olympic Games in Tokyo as of July 24 ". Thomas Bach-President of IOC

According to the schedule of activities delivered by the IOC, the organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Games must deliver a status report behind closed doors by videoconference to the Executive Committee on Wednesday, March 4, before Bach himself declares to the media the same day.
