Dog nasal specimens have a third weak positive response to the virus

AFCD stated that the dog was sampled from the dog for testing on February 26, and a small amount of 2019 coronavirus virus was detected from samples from the oral cavity and nasal cavity on February 27. The department tested again on February 28 and March 2. The dog's oral and nasal samples and nasal samples showed weak positive responses to the virus.

AFCD had consulted experts from the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong, the School of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences of the City University of Hong Kong, and the World Organisation for Animal Health. They agreed that the results showed that the dog was infected with the virus to a low degree and is likely to be infected by human . The dog is currently free of any related symptoms and is undergoing quarantine at the animal shelter at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port.

The AFCD will closely monitor the affected dogs and conduct repeated tests on them. After the test results are negative, the dogs will be returned to their owners.

Dogs have both heart disease and kidney disease

A spokesman for Happy Valley Veterinary Clinic and Hospital Clinic said earlier that Zhou Qiao's dog has a long-term illness and needs to take heart and kidney medications. The last time he saw a veterinarian at the clinic was December last year, and the owner would come every month The clinic takes medicine for dogs.

At present, two dogs in the animal shelter of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port have been quarantined and are located in two separate rooms. The other dog tested negative for the 2019 coronavirus virus test. Before the end of the quarantine period, AFCD will re-examine the dog.

The agency strongly recommends that pets living with those diagnosed with coronavirus disease or their close contacts be arranged for quarantine at the AFCD's quarantine facility.

AFCD: there is no evidence that pets can spread new coronary pneumonia

The AFCD reminds pet owners to keep good hygiene habits, including washing hands before and after they come into contact with animals or their food and articles, avoid kissing animals, and keep the home environment clean and hygienic. People who are unwell should avoid contact with animals. If you notice changes in your pet's health, you should seek the advice of a veterinarian as soon as possible. AFCD emphasised that there is no evidence that pets can transmit new coronary pneumonia or become sick as a result. Pet breeders need not worry too much and should never abandon pets.
