The Homs City Council, in cooperation with the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development of the Patriarchate of Antioch and the rest of the Levant for the Greek Orthodox, launched an initiative to rehabilitate several shops affected by terrorism in the markets of the old city in order to support the commercial movement in it.

A member of the Commission for the Activation of Archaeological Markets in Homs, Eng. Muhammad Rasmi Al-Sebaei, told SANA correspondent today that the initiative includes the rehabilitation of 50 stores in Naoura, Hisbah, the covered market and Abu Al-Awf Street, indicating that the shops were chosen to rehabilitate them within separate areas of the aforementioned markets with the presence of the owner of the store or his approval to return Qualification.

He clarified that rehabilitation work is expected to be accomplished during the next three months and will include paint, installation of shelves, fencing and installation of facades, indicating that city council workshops have completed rehabilitation of sidewalks, streets and lighting works within the center's markets. Coordination has also been made with service institutions to restore water services, the electrical network and communications to the market.

The Council, in cooperation with the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development, completed last year the works of rehabilitation of 50 damaged stores in the old Homs markets, including 25 stores in the Hasba and Na'ura markets, and the like in the city center market, with the aim of encouraging shop owners to return to the markets and work after the merchants pledged to open their stores as soon as they were rehabilitated.
