Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today that an agreement has been reached to stop hostilities in Idlib at the current situation, indicating that the agreement affirms a commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Syria and the continued fight against terrorism there.

"We do not agree in all opinions with the Turkish side on the situation in Syria, but every time and in the crucial moments, and based on the level of relations that unite us, we were able to reach," Putin told reporters at the end of talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow today. Lavrov stressed that Russia and Turkey, and based on the stabilization of the situation in the de-escalation zone in Idlib, signed in September 2018, confirm their commitment to the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of the Syrian territories and their intention to combat all terrorist organizations there and listed on the Security Council's list of terrorist entities.

Lavrov reiterated that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria and that it should be settled through a political process led by the Syrians in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, focusing on the importance of protecting civilians and providing humanitarian assistance to all who need it and working to return the displaced to their homes.
