The city is digitally upgrading all primary and secondary schools. A first step is to connect the schools to the fiber optic network.
Germering - The administration placed the order for this with the company T-Systems, which belongs to Telekom, with the help of an urgent order before the award was dealt with by the responsible environmental, planning and construction committee. Reason: T-Systems had announced at the end of January that the offer made was limited in time. From the sixth calendar week, i.e. from February 3, the price would have increased by 25 percent.
In addition to T-Systems, only Vodafone had responded to the city's tender. According to the administration, this offer could not be evaluated because it contained formal and substantive errors.
The cost of the T-Systems offer is around EUR 245,000 for six fiber optic connections. The effort is quite different depending on the school. For the Kerschenstein elementary and middle school, 31,000 euros each have to be paid. The primary school on Kleinfeldstrasse costs around 33,000 euros, the Theresen primary school with almost 40,000 euros. The most expensive are the connections of the Wittelsbach School (48,000 euros) and the Church School (62,000 euros). The differences come together due to the different distances that T-Systems has to overcome. According to city architect Jürgen Thum, underground cables are being laid: "It has to be dug."
The city only has to pay a fraction of the total amount on offer. The state supports the fiber optic connections and pays 80 percent of the costs, which is around 196,000 euros. That leaves just under 50,000 euros for the city. The costs are already booked in the household. According to OB Andreas Haas, the fiber optic connection is only one of several steps to improve the digital equipment of schools. Among other things, they are also connected to the WiFi network and receive so-called tablet cases. kg
