According to the police, the chain reaction was triggered by a truck breakdown between the Münchberg Nord and Münchberg Süd exits in the district of Hof: a road was blocked, a backlog was formed - at the same time, the visibility was poor and it had rained.
After a collision in the middle lane, the News5 news agency reported three more rear-end collisions . The job site on the highway stretched over several hundred meters. According to the police, the property damage was just under 100,000 euros.

In addition to the police and fire service, a rescue helicopter was also used. The police praised the fact that several first-aiders looked after the injured on site and secured the accident site until the emergency services came. However, an eyewitness video apparently also showed that several vehicles drove through the emergency lane, even though the fire brigade was still approaching.
After the accident, a backlog of about 15 kilometers was formed on the A9 in the afternoon.
It was only at the end of February that there was a mass collision on the A6 in Franconia with 17 vehicles involved. A fatal chain reaction followed a collision on the A93 a year ago. After a tram accident in Munich, a first responder spoke about his needs last summer.
