The life of Saveurs by Pierre Demours, bakery in the Ternes district (17th), and his young baker Taieb Sahal will undoubtedly be turned upside down. This Thursday, the 26-year-old craftsman won the 2020 edition of the Grand Prize for French traditional baguette. He will receive an endowment of € 4,000 and will be for one year the official supplier of chef Guillaume Gomez's kitchens at the Palais de l'Élysée.
Questioned by our colleagues from Paris , the baker confided to exercise the profession for four years and to have trained for the competition several times a week for a month.
210 baguettes were deposited the same morning for this 27th edition of the prize. Each was evaluated by a jury chaired by Olivia Polski, assistant to the mayor of Paris in charge of Trade and Handicrafts and composed of professionals and six Parisians, on the following criteria: appearance of the product, quality of its cooking , crumb consistency, smell and taste.
At the end of the jury, the unconsumed baguettes were given to the Aurore association, for the benefit of homeless people.
