Disney + is the next streaming service to come to Germany. We explain everything you need to know about the new Disney platform.

  • Disney sends its own platform into the streaming race
  • Classics and new own creations are supposed to put pressure on Netflix and Co.
  • Disney + starts with a real battle price

The time has come, Disney + , the new streaming service from the USA, will reach Germany towards the end of the month. Since the powerful mouse has now felt that half the entertainment industry is under its paws, fans of the Marvel studios and self-proclaimed Jedi Knights, as well as long-established Disney fans, should be excited about the latest Disney creations.

What does Disney + have to offer in contrast to the competition?

"Any new streaming service again?", Some readers might think, rightly so, but Disney's service is a serious competitor of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video . In contrast to German media libraries such as TVNow or Joyn, the Disney + range not only scores with its own creations, but can also fall back on a decades-old catalog that is valued or even loved by old and young alike.

Disney also describes the in-house streaming service as “the new home of Pixar and National Geographic”. Disney + would also like to offer content from the acquired 20th Century Studios , formerly known as "20th Century Fox". Even other American providers such as AppleTV + or Hulu, who have wanted to establish themselves as fixed streaming giants for some time, cannot keep up.

Disney + starts with a manageable offer

As far as new films and series are concerned, however, the anticipation at this point should be curbed a little, because at the start of Germany on March 24th, 2020, Disney confirmed the following new titles:

  • "The Mandalorian"
  • "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series"
  • The final season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars"
  • A real film remake of "Susi and Strolch"

"The Mandalorian" catches the eye of fans of the Star Wars saga , of course. Jon Favreau's “Space Western”, which already directed “Iron Man” , is about a nameless warrior who earns his money as a bounty hunter five years after the fall of the empire. The series can therefore be categorized nine years after the events of "Episode IV - A New Hope".

The remake of "Susi und Strolch" is not a new cartoon version, but a real film. Disney lovers can not only look forward to a return of the two characters, but also look forward to seeing how the film works with real dogs and compares to the original.

What else did Disney plan?

Otherwise, German viewers can expect “Encore!” From actress Kristen Bell at the start of Disney + , as well as “The World According to Jeff Goldblum”, in which the actor, with a soft voice and humorous view, swaggered about everyday objects and things.

The long-awaited series from the Marvel universe, such as "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" and "Loki", are still in production. So fans of the comic book films still have to wait longingly.

While a huge catalog of films and series is already available in the United States, it is still unclear whether all of Disney's classics, all Marvel productions and Pixar films will also be available for launch in Germany. Sooner or later, of course, the same offer can also be expected in this country.

Disney + attracts with an affordable price

Millions of people in Germany are already using Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and there are also subscriptions to Sky and possibly DAZN in some households, depending on how sporty you are. So you'd better think twice about getting another subscription with Disney +.

The price plays a big role in times of streaming . Therefore, Disney not only relies on the strategy of brand perception in the form of Star Wars and Marvel , but also wants to put pressure on the competition with an aggressive pricing policy.

Fair #price when most #Disney films are actually available. Let's see how long it takes for the price to be increased

- Dani (@ D2N1W) January 21, 2020

For example, while a simple basic subscription costs € 7.99 per month for Netflix, Disney only charges € 6.99. The price difference of a narrow euro may seem marginal at first, but if you take a closer look it is noticeable that Disney offers much more for little money: streaming on up to four devices is possible at the same time, and sometimes even in Ultra HD. Downloads for offline use are also possible. You don't have to pay anything for that. With Netflix, on the other hand, a comparable subscription costs € 15.99, i.e. more than double.

For whom is the Disney streaming service worthwhile?

A colorful mix of different genres, films and series shouldn't be expected at Disney + . Rather, you concentrate on your own cult classics, children's films and various productions from the Marvel and Star Wars universes. If you would like to see a dark thriller or an experimental indie flick, you are definitely wrong on the Disney platform.

Because even if series such as "The Mandalorian" would theoretically be available to an entirely adult audience, it is virtually guaranteed that Disney will keep all productions either completely or at least partially family-friendly.

A subscription should be particularly worthwhile for parents or families. Especially once the Disney + catalog has been properly expanded, both parents and children should get their money's worth.

In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves whether the various films and series from the Marvel and Star Wars universe , which will only be released in the future, are reason enough for a subscription. At least Disney fans should already be clear about this.
