Contrary to popular belief, crime among young people continues to decline sharply - also in the district of Erding.

Erding - A new low of 627 cases was recently reached in which the youth welfare office was involved in cases in the courts. That was in 2017, and there were even fewer cases in 2016 (615). In 2004 and 2005, however, the agency had to deal with 1239 and 1413 procedures, respectively. The head of department Peter Stadick reported in the youth welfare committee, who spoke of an "encouraging development".

Nonviolent education prevails

But this did not fall from the sky. Stadick gave reasons. On the one hand, youth social work in schools reacts more quickly and more quickly to relevant incidents. In addition, there are more and more prevention offers in schools, such as mediators or campaigns against bullying and for respect. Stadick is convinced that the requirement of non-violent upbringing has become more and more popular in households. What also pleased him: the acceptance of the authority as an auxiliary body has grown.

Cases of theft have risen again, but the (negligent) bodily injuries have declined sharply, according to Stadick there are also lower numbers of traffic offenses.

AWO President criticizes judiciary for social hours

Erding's AWO President Fritz Steinberger poured water into the wine. He criticized that the judiciary relied too much on voluntary work for social hours, but left it alone with the delinquents. "You have to supervise them closely and break them down into eight-hour days for students." This is very time-consuming. "In the long term, we can no longer do this, we need more support." Steinberger suggested a round table together with the courts.

Stadick also reported on the involvement of the youth welfare office in the family courts. “Our task is to keep an eye on the well-being of children and young people, for example in the event of custody and handling disputes. The head of office complained that "more and more parents are showing a lack of willingness to communicate and cooperate". Conflicts within families are increasing. There are also more and more conspicuous or sick fathers and mothers. "This is putting more and more strain on our specialists," Stadick said.

Development in adoptions

He also commented on the adoption. He anticipates a further increase in so-called successive adoptions, especially through step-parents. On the other hand, the number of parents who adopted a foreign child tended towards zero. "We think that's good," says Stadick.

The Youth Welfare Committee unanimously decided to grant foster parents instead of 1,710 2,280 euros if the child received the driver's license. The panel is thus responding to the significantly increased costs. District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer (CSU) emphasized that the willingness to accept foster children "must be kept attractive".
