Municipal in Paris: what challenges before the second debate between candidates?

2020-03-09T19:52:18.010Z

Damien Albessard, expert in political communication, deciphers the challenges of this meeting which will be broadcast live this Tuesday on France 3

Tuesday evening at 9.55 p.m. on France 3 Paris-Ile-de-France, Agnès Buzyn, Anne Hilago, Rachida Dati, Danielle Simonnet, Serge Federbusch, Cédric Villani and David Belliard have an appointment for the final confrontation before the first round of Sunday . Decryption.

What lessons do you draw from the televised debate last Wednesday?

DAMIEN ALBESSARD. Rachida Dati (LR) and Agnès Buzyn (LREM) have done well. The leader of the Republicans has positioned herself as the candidate for work-study training by carrying subjects dear to the Sarkozy right: cleanliness, security or suppression rent control. She placed herself in a right-left duel. The candidate LREM showed her calm, her knowledge of the files and a certain skill in a new exercise for her. But basically, it did not stand out from Rachida Dati's program and was wrong to go into the field of ecology already occupied by the outgoing mayor, David Belliard (EELV) or Cédric Villani (dissident LREM) .

And Anne Hidalgo?

Anne Hidalgo (Paris in common, PS), she was attacked, not surprisingly, on her balance sheet. She should have explained that we cannot change a city like Paris into a mandate and register its action in time.

What are the main issues in the debate on Tuesday evening?

Anne Hidalgo's real opponent is the former Keeper of the Seals. The LREM candidate, she must prepare to advance on a crest path because she will be, this time, the target of all critics: on the coronavirus, the public hospital crisis or even the 49.3 recourse to make pass the pension reform. She also risks being attacked for her lack of political experience and her parachuting in the capital. As for Cédric Villani, the time has come for him to get out of the woods. Will he rally Agnès Buzyn? Or David Belliard and Anne Hidalgo? Or will it remain in its position as a maverick which did not allow it to take off in the polls? Voters today do not know who he is driving for. The debate will no doubt be an opportunity for him to explain himself. Danielle Simonnet (LFI) has no chance of becoming mayor of Paris and has every interest in making this debate a national political platform against the government in order to prepare for the next elections.

What alliances do you see emerging today?

All candidates have an interest in being as high as possible in the first round in order to be able to influence the alliances. If Rachida Dati takes the lead, she has a boulevard in front of her and one can imagine an alliance with Agnès Buzyn, if she comes in third position. Emmanuel Macron would then pull out of the game. If the LREM candidate finally decided to maintain herself, she would take the risk of having her voices siphoned off by the candidate on the right. If, conversely, Anne Hidalgo comes out on top, we can expect her to make an alliance with environmentalists and Cédric Villani.

What advice would you give to each candidate?

Rachida Dati has an interest in continuing to embody the alternation to unite around those dissatisfied with Anne Hidalgo. The outgoing mayor must be placed above the fray. Agnes Buzyn, she has efforts to make to be audible and establish itself as the third way. David Belliard must stay on his ecological line. As for Cédric Villani; it is time for him to be clear.
