First, the district office rejected a pedestrian traffic light at the southern entrance to Poing. Now a signaling system is set up - initially on a trial basis.

Poing - In autumn 2019, the Ebersberg district office still refused to set up a traffic light at the Neufarner Strasse / Wittelsbacher Strasse / Schulstrasse intersection in Poing-Süd. Now it is coming, even if only as a trial run for twelve months. In the meeting of the town council last Thursday, Mayor Albert Hingerl announced that the district office as the road authority responsible for Neufarner Strasse (district road EBE 2) had issued the relevant traffic regulations for the trial traffic lights.

Change of opinion within six months

In November, the district office replied to a request from the municipality that there was no need for traffic lights because the traffic at this point was not high. Nevertheless, the administration had stayed on the ball, because on the one hand the local council had spoken out in favor of a measure at the southern entrance to the town, coming from Angelbrechting. On the other hand, because the very first application, which was then dealt with and approved by the local council, came from the 2019 citizens' assembly.

Poing: The first application comes from residents

Matthias Andres, a resident of Neufarner Straße, had asked for the conversion of the existing crossing aid at the entrance to the town and the construction of a traffic light system at the Neufarner Straße / Wittelsbacher- / Schulstraße intersection. Especially with a view of the many schoolchildren crossing Neufarner Straße there. Andres reported in the town hall that cars would often drive from Angelbrechting to Neufarner Strasse at high speed. Where, from the place name sign, actually only 50 km / h applies.

Numerous speeders measured

At the municipal council meeting in July 2019, when Matthias Andres' proposals were discussed, Jürgen Rappold, chief and ordinance officer in the town hall, presented the results of various speed measurements in the area of Neufarner Strasse / entrance to the town. He referred to a total of 20 measurements between March 6 and July 31, 2018, in which 255,094 vehicles were registered. According to Rappold, just under 41.3 percent of them had kept to the prescribed speed of 50 km / h. The majority was in the range between 60 and 70 km / h, but a whopping 505 vehicles were traveling faster than 90 km / h.

Poing: Dangerous Neufarner Strasse

The fact that at the southern entrance or exit of Poing is sometimes extremely raging confirmed further radar measurements that the municipality later carried out without a visible speed display. According to Rappold, violations of 90 km / h and more were registered in Neufarner Strasse, both in and out of town. The highest value coming from Angelbrechting was 146 km / h, towards Angelbrechting it was 138 km / h. In both cases, mind you, in the local area on Neufarner Straße, where speed 50 applies.

Poing: Community wants to act

In the meeting at the time, the municipal council decided to take two measures: to reduce the speed by taking appropriate construction measures (for example, optimizing the existing crossing aid). And to set up a pedestrian traffic light. However, the ultimate decision-maker for both measures is not the municipality, but the district office in Ebersberg. That the traffic light initially refused.
