Police and civilian clashes broke out in the "Global Anti-Totalitarian Parade" on September 29 last year. 96 people were accused of participating in the riots in the Admiralty area that day. One of HKUST's senior students was accused of leaving Hong Kong to the National University of Singapore as an exchange student. The case was originally reported today. The defendant went to the West Kowloon Magistracy today (13th), hoping to continue his bail application and want to absent from the hearing on the 27th of this month. He must not leave Hong Kong and must return his travel documents, which means that the defendant will not be able to return to Singapore for classes. The prosecution also revealed that it will apply for the case to be transferred to the District Court, and it is expected to reply in the District Court next month.

The defendant, Xie Xiaofeng (age 20), a third-year student of the University of Science and Technology, was charged with 43 people in a riot along the Harcourt Road in Admiralty on September 29 last year, along with other unknown persons.

Xie will not be able to return to Singapore for classes

Xie, who is interested in pursuing a doctoral degree, has a GPA of 4 or more. He has previously received a scholarship to be an exchange student at the National University of Singapore. He returned to Hong Kong yesterday to prepare for today's hearing.

The case was originally scheduled to be raised today. Therefore, the conditions for leaving Xie Zhuan were limited to yesterday. However, due to the delay of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the original hearing date was changed to 27th of this month. The defence expects the court to approve Xie's absence on that day. The magistrate refused this application and only approved him to continue his bail until the next trial, but he was not allowed to leave Hong Kong during the period. He had to return his travel documents, which means that Xie failed to return to Singapore for class. In addition, Xie must also be banned from Admiralty, regularly report to the police station and reside at the reported address.
