New York turns off the lights of Broadway and prohibits gatherings with more than 500 people, with the exception of hospitals, schools, retirement homes and mass transportation such as the subway.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has no doubts about the need to avoid spreading the virus even by taking strong measures. The state of New York will see the "same trajectory" of cases in Italy, China and South Korea, explains Cuomo, specifying that there are 328 cases in the state, including 47 in the hospital. In New York City alone, the number of cases has doubled in 24 hours to 95. A number destined to rise rapidly and reach 1,000 cases as early as next week. Hence the decision of Mayor Bill de Blasio to declare a state of emergency.
But it's not just Broadway that closes. Events are also canceled in the rest of the United States: sport is overwhelmed, as is golf with the PGA Tour which cancels the Players Championship. Disney parks in California and Florida also close.
