Prominent support for biodiversity: celebrity chef Stefan Marquard sponsors a 500 square meter flowering area in Gelting. He explains why:

Gelting - The Zehmerhof Gelting has a prominent blooming godfather: the cook and TV chef Stefan Marquard. He took over the sponsorship for 500 square meters in a field on which Zehmerhof junior boss Ludwig Huber sows a flower mix for bees and Co. The reason why he participates, says Marquard, who lives in the municipality of Pliening: “It is essential to support the region. Second, without bees, there is no humanity. "

Pliening: sponsorship campaign by the Zehmerhof

Last year, when Huber carried out the flowering area sponsorship campaign, Stefan Marquard had taken over an area. The concept: Sponsorship for one square meter costs 60 cents a year. The Zehmerhof doubles the area again. The money is intended as financial compensation for the high-quality seed mix (49 plant species) and for the loss of agricultural yields (usually the Huber family grows soy, corn, wheat and potatoes in the field in rotation).

Participate until March 22nd

The ecological agricultural master Ludwig Huber had long had the idea of doing something for biodiversity. The “Save the Bees” referendum last year ultimately motivated him to implement the project. Huber reports that last year it was almost 50,000 square meters (including doubling), so far this year it has been around 15,000 square meters (also including doubling). Interested parties can still take part in the sponsorship campaign until 22 March. The farmer had already announced last year that it would not be a one-off.

Marquard: Support the region

"This campaign is good and important," says Stefan Marquard. Especially now that the topic of biodiversity has faded somewhat into the background, it is necessary to continue positive actionism here. In general, according to the cook, mankind has to go back to the roots. Also in terms of nutrition. Regional shopping, for example, "because you know what you're getting," says Marquard.

Guided tours for children

To ensure that future generations know where food comes from and how important biodiversity is, last year Ludwig Huber offered and carried out guided tours for school classes and kindergarten groups on the Blühwiesenfeld (near which there are beehives of the Plieninger beekeeper Alexander Möller). He'll do that again this year, he announces.
