Hundreds of Israelis are currently in besieged Peru with no way out of the country that imposed very new and significant restrictions.
Police forces are on the streets and in a few hours it will no longer be possible to exit or enter the state. In the last hours before the closure took effect, hundreds of Israelis were unable to find a flight that would take them out of Peru and had to find themselves seeking solutions in the country.
In Peru, there is a restriction on gatherings and many Israelis cannot stay in hotels and gather in apartments together, according to calls we made with them. A generous Dawn, an Israeli who is there says that, "Police in the streets are forbidden to leave the houses except for a supermarket, bank or pharmacy. People spend all their money from the banks, buy quantities of food and we try to buy as much food as possible, we are besieged here, there is no Flights, you can't leave and enter the country. "
An Israeli tourist group tried to cross the border, but was stopped by the army and returned to Peru. Currently, there are several hundred Israelis who are there and it is unclear how long this closure will last. In recent hours, attempts have been made by Israeli officials to take direct flights to Peru and return all Israelis who are there back to Israel.
Earlier today, both Israir and Amsalem Tours announced special flights aimed at bringing Israelis back to Israel from Brazil, Romania, Cyprus, Moldova and several other countries where Israelis are unable to find a solution for their return to Israel. Currently, there are several hundred to several thousand Israelis in South America trying to find a solution to return to the country. A similar situation exists in some Asian countries, including Thailand and the Philippines.
