An indictment has been filed against a Tel Aviv resident who is suspected of violently assaulting and robbing an estimated NIS 5,000 elderly 87-year-old and fled the scene.
The defendant, 40, is suspected of ambushing the elderly man while he was pulling money from an ATM on Jerusalem Boulevard in Jaffa, emerged behind him and then began to violently assault him, hit his head, strangle him, knock him to the ground and continue to pound hard with tools.
A bystander who passed by and noticed what was happening showed great resourcefulness and approached the defendant holding him and confronting him to stop his actions and the defendant in response fled the scene. The elderly man sustained numerous injuries to his body and head.
Police officers who arrived at the scene were able to track down the defendant and capture him shortly. As mentioned, the accused was arrested for questioning at the Jaffa police station when he was jailed and his arrest was extended from time to time in court.
