The Covid-19 pandemic is driving people crazy. During the night of Monday to Tuesday, in Trappes (Yvelines), a group broke the door of a small supermarket before rushing to food and attacking the police who intervened to put end their abuses. "It is a first in the Yvelines and it shows how strong the psychosis is in sensitive neighborhoods," confides, worried, an official.
The alert was given shortly after 10 p.m., when a call to the police reported that the mini-market Ladybug Express, avenue Hector-Berlioz, was being looted. "After having forced access to the store, thieves went out pushing carts filled with everyday products," reports a source close to the case.
Intervening police targeted
When the police arrive on the scene, they are confronted by about fifteen hostile people who throw various projectiles in their direction. "The officials retaliated with three stun grenades and managed to disperse them," said another source. No injuries and no damage were to be reported on the side of the police. But no thief could be arrested.
Upon examining the store, the police discovered that the side door had been forced open. The thieves seized the stocks of food products which were in the mini-market, closed for two months. The Versailles Commercial Court has already declared its liquidation, but, obviously, there were still foodstuffs.
Since the first announcements of school closings last Thursday, part of the population has been rushing to basic necessities in the department stores. At the Portes de Normandie shopping center in Buchelay, the rush on the food shelves of the Auchan hypermarket has sometimes even turned into a fight, forcing the brand to filter entries. The government has repeatedly reminded that there will be no shortage of food and that outings for shopping are allowed during containment.
