2020-03-17T22:17:14.384Z

The 15th edition of the transatlantic race contested in Figaro Bénéteau 3 has been postponed following the coronavirus epidemic.

She looked beautiful, indecisive and sunny. And not surprisingly, like almost all sports competitions, it has given up on the coronavirus. OC Sport Pen Duick, the organizer of the Transat AG2R La Mondiale announced on Tuesday the postponement of the 15th edition which was due to take off on Sunday, April 19 from Concarneau. 21 boats and as many duos were announced on the starting line for this great first transatlantic race contested with the new Figaro Bénéteau 3 launched last year on the occasion of the 50th edition of the Solitaire du Figaro.

Other canceled events

And for this beautiful meeting, which ends every two years in full sun on the warm and welcoming shores of the island of Saint-Barthélemy, another first was planned: the installation of the race director, Francis Le Goff and the entire organizing team, with the press PC, in the premises of Le Figaro, boulevard Haussmann in Paris. The big 26-minute daily broadcast was to be produced in the Figaro video studio before being broadcast live on the Infosport antenna, the figaro.fr website and the facebook pages of the race and our newspaper. Missed. No race and therefore no broadcast. All this being, hopefully, only part postponed, a postponement being studied… Hervé Favre, President of OC Sport Pen Duick stressed in a press release: “All the OC Sport Pen Duick teams will redouble efforts to find solutions, in close collaboration with the Figaro Bénéteau Class, in the event of a postponement of this edition and in order to continue to bring to life this great event which has animated the sports calendar for 28 years. "

Other sailing races have already been canceled, such as the traditional Spi Ouest France planned for Easter weekend or the Solo Maitre CoQ which was to launch the Figaro Bénéteau circuit. And a decision should soon be announced concerning The Transat CIC planned for departure from Brest on May 10, heading to Charleston in the United States. The organizers still have a little time before deciding. It would be astonishing if the legendary English deckchair passed between the drops of an uncompromising virus with the whole planet.
