Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today for a five billion dollar loan to tackle the emerging Corona virus.
"We address your esteemed organization by requesting your evaluation of the possibility of granting us a credit facility of $ 5 billion" from the Fund's rapid financing tool, "France Presse quoted Maduro as saying in a letter to the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva.
Maduro stressed that this loan would "contribute significantly to strengthening systems for testing and response to the virus, which has officially numbered 33 people in Venezuela so far without any death."
It is noteworthy that Washington imposed new coercive measures on Venezuela targeting the Central Bank, as it placed restrictions on US transactions with it to prevent it from obtaining the US dollar, in the context of Washington's attempts to interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs and destabilize it by tightening economic and financial coercive measures and supporting right-wing forces in a desperate attempt by Washington is to revive its plans to dominate this country that possesses huge oil wealth and the coup against the legitimate president using all means, including violence and chaos.
