Munich - Easter holidays are just around the corner - but nobody really dares to get out into the world anymore. It would not even work: more and more countries are imposing strict entry bans, including Germany, since 16 March there have been extensive controls and entry bans at the borders with many of our neighboring countries.
For a few days now, the United States has stopped admitting people who have been within the Schengen area up to two weeks before entering the country. Israel is asking all tourists to leave - and public life in Italy, Spain and France is already paralyzed.
The world is in a state of emergency - and there is still no end to the crisis in sight . We checked out which countries have already changed their entry requirements for tourists from Germany .
The Federal Foreign Office has issued an official travel warning for all unnecessary tourist trips abroad. There is also a return program for German travelers, especially in particularly affected areas.
Coronavirus entry bans: Several countries require two-week quarantine
Uganda, Malawi, Chad and North Macedonia meanwhile ask tourists from Germany to go to a two-week quarantine on their own after entering the country. Otherwise, they would be forced into "institutional quarantine" at their own expense, according to a security advisory from the Federal Foreign Office.
In Hong Kong , tourists who have been in North Rhine-Westphalia up to 14 days before their arrival are isolated. Even those who have booked a trip to Malta can expect a two-week quarantine. Cruise ships from Italy, France and Spain are no longer allowed to call at the island.
In India , all visas that have already been issued have been declared invalid by German nationals , provided they have not yet entered the country. Vietnam has temporarily suspended visa-free travel for Germans, and in Nepal German citizens must obtain a medical certificate before entering the country that they are healthy.
Coronavirus entry bans: border crossings closed
As previously reported, the Italian government has already declared the entire country a restricted area . However, it is still possible to go to Germany, the Federal Foreign Office said. By the way: Many border crossings are now closed - for example to Switzerland, Austria, France, Luxembourg and Denmark.
"For travelers without a valid reason to travel, they can no longer enter," said Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer. The situation was serious and the spread of the virus had to be slowed down. Slovenia has also cordoned off its 232 km border for non-commercial traffic .

Return campaign of German vacationers
The German government wants to enable some German vacationers who are still stranded abroad to return to Germany . The Federal Government has provided up to 50 million euros for this. The first countries affected are Morocco, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, the Maldives and the Philippines.
