Fallen producer Harvey Weinstein, sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexual assault and rape, was transferred to a prison in northern New York on Wednesday. The sixty-year-old has so far stayed at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan since his conviction on March 11 after being admitted to the facility for hypertension problems.

He was taken out of the hospital on Wednesday and was on his way, late morning local time, to the Downstate Correctional Facility, spokesman AFP told AFP. This high-security prison is located in Fishkill, near the Hudson River, just over 100 km north of Manhattan.

According to the website of the New York City Prison Service, Harvey Weinstein has indeed been transferred to a prison in New York State. Contacted by AFP, the prison authorities of the State of New York did not act immediately and their database does not integrate Harvey Weinstein for the moment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which quotes the prisoner's prison consultant, this is just one step for Harvey Weinstein, for assessment purposes. The producer, who will celebrate his 68th birthday on Thursday, should then be assigned to another establishment to serve his sentence, according to Craig Rothfeld.

Convicted in New York of sexual assault on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and rape on former aspiring actress Jessica Mann, Harvey Weinstein has yet to answer charges of sexual assault in California justice.
