The information was disclosed by our colleagues at Le Progrès and reported by the Samu social du Rhône. The organization said it had written to the prefecture after learning that several homeless people had been fined by the police for non-compliance with the new containment rules. "On Tuesday, I have two people who told me that they were fined by the police when they said they had no roof," a social worker from 115 shared on Facebook.

Joined by Le Progrès , the prefect of the Rhône said that if the facts were proven, they were "contrary to the instructions he gave to the police" . Pascal Mailhos asked the Departmental Director of Public Security in the Rhône to launch an internal investigation to shed light on this case. "If any tickets had been issued to homeless people, they would be canceled immediately ," he said.

INSEE listed 150,000 homeless people in France in its last survey dating from 2012. According to associations, this figure is largely undervalued and in reality is close to 250,000. Faced with the coronavirus, the government extended the winter break by two months until the end of May. It is also gradually opening the famous "loosening centers" - "specialized accommodation centers for non-serious patients" - and promises a platform for identifying volunteers wishing to replace confined volunteers.
