European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed a series of measures to the Member States to put an end to truck congestion at the borders due to checks to combat the coronavirus.

The European executive released recommendations on Monday to unclog the main traffic routes in the EU and avoid delays in product delivery or shortages, thanks to the implementation of " green axes ".
" Crossing a border via a reserved lane should take no more than 15 minutes ," said Ursula von der Leyen in a video message posted on Twitter. She said that " 40 km lines " had formed last weekend " at certain border points " with " waiting times of up to 18 hours ". " It must stop, " she pleaded. " The reserved lanes should be open to vehicles carrying all types of goods, " said the German.
The Commission president also called on member countries to " suspend (traffic) restrictions, such as weekend and night driving bans ". " We are in an exceptional situation, we must be flexible, " she urged.
She also advocated a reduction in administrative formalities for workers in the transport sector. " They must be allowed to cross borders more quickly ", she continued, stressing that " border health checks " put in place by the member states " must be organized in such a way that the free movement of goods is not stopped . "
