Several sources have confirmed to celebrity news site TMZ that the ousted Hollywood producer, 68, was one of two inmates in Wende prison (northern New York) who tested positive for new coronavirus. A spokesperson for Harvey Weinstein declined to comment to the American media.
Harvey Weinstein was transferred Wednesday to the Wende Detention Center from the famous Rikers Island Prison, located in the Queens district of New York, where he has been since his conviction on March 11. Before this transfer, he had been treated in a Manhattan hospital for chest pain. Local press reports said prison guards at Rikers Island and Sing Sing, also in New York, tested positive for coronavirus last week.
Convicted in New York of sexual assault on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and rape of former actress Jessica Mann, Harvey Weinstein has yet to answer charges of sexual assault in California justice. The Oscar-winning producer has been charged by nearly 90 women, including actresses Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.
