(ANSA) - MILAN, MARCH 21 - In the period between 2014 and 2019, the issues of green bonds worldwide have increased fivefold, going from less than 50 billion dollars to over 250. This is what the Monetary Observatory dedicated to Green Finance notes. The report, created by the Università Cattolica, in collaboration with the Association for the development of bank and stock exchange studies (Assbb) is available online on the website of the University's monetary analysis laboratory (Lam).
Research shows that finance is increasingly "green". In fact, for some years all over the world the sustainable financial investment market has been booming, and Europe is a leader in this sector: between 2012 and 2018, the value of the activities managed by mutual funds' European responsibilities has doubled, passing from 250 to 500 billion euros.
However, some obstacles to its greater development remain, for example the uncertain regulatory framework.
The interest in sustainable investments comes both from "institutional investors, such as pension funds, insurance companies and other financial intermediaries, and from retail savers," observes Angelo Baglioni, director of the Monetary Observatory. This interest, continues Baglioni, can have two reasons: "The first is the willingness to allocate proper investments to the good cause of sustainability, according to various criteria, including the environmental one, is becoming the dominant one. The second is given by the fact that the respect of ESG criteria often goes hand in hand with a good return and a low investment risk: the companies that commit themselves to respect sustainability criteria are often the ones that have better governance and greater transparency. In other words: investing responsibly does not mean giving up on returns ". (ANSA).
