Oberndorf / Ebersberg - A rustic bench, a stone water trough, a sawn-off maypole in white and blue and two church bells. All of this arranged on or next to a green artificial grass carpet directly in front of the church in Oberndorf. The place belongs to the city of Ebersberg.

2.6 million euros cost

Background: The old school and community center once stood in front of the church. The original plan was to renovate the building. Initially, costs of around 1.5 million euros were estimated, at the end of 2019 there was talk of 2.6 million euros.

The considerations for a new building became more concrete. The decision was made in November. Around 100,000 euros had already been invested in planning costs. The money is now probably in the sand.

It was then demolished in January. The rubble was removed and the site leveled.

Recently symbols have appeared on the square in front of the church, which probably indicate the wishes of the village population. Those in charge of the campaign do not want to name it that precisely. According to information from the Ebersberger Zeitung, a village square is planned. A kind of monument could arise from the bells, it is said. First you want to wait and see what plans there are for a new building. However, there should be discussions between the various parties involved.

Three variants were up for debate

How expensive demolition and new construction will cost the city now depends on the planning. In November there were three variants under discussion, the smallest of which, at a cost of EUR 2.35 million plus demolition costs, would be a little cheaper than renovation.

In any case, additional social housing should be created in the future, whether a total of four, five or six apartments still have to be clarified. In each variant - the largest and most expensive costs just under three million euros - 150 to 175 square meters are intended for the club.

Suggestion: plant next to a new building

There can be a compromise when it comes to the village square. The proposal: a plant next to a new building.

"The signal from the location was understood," said Ebersberg Mayor Walter Brilmayer when asked by the Ebersberger Zeitung. "This is also an expression of Oberndorf's self-confidence."

A working group will deal with the planning, including representatives from Oberndorf, announced the city hall chief, who will be in office until the end of April. Brilmayer can see a lot of positive things about the campaign. Among other things, this prevents the area in front of the local church from becoming a wild parking lot.
