Mexico suspends passport issuance due to coronavirus

The Government of Mexico reported on Tuesday that it will suspend the issuance of passports domestically and abroad due to the coronavirus health emergency.

(CNN Spanish) - The Government of Mexico reported on Tuesday that it will suspend the issuance of passports nationally and abroad due to the health emergency due to coronavirus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said in a statement that the measure will take effect on March 27 and will last until April 19.

SRE added that it will only deliver passports in cases of "accredited emergencies" and that for this it has arranged as contact the email dgdelegación@sre.gob.mx and the telephone number 800 801 07 73.

The Secretariat indicated that the payments already made for the document will be valid for 5 years.

At the moment it is unknown when the request for new appointments will be enabled.
