(CNN Spanish) - The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, reported this Wednesday that "for now" the repatriation of citizens who are in other countries is suspended.

In an interview with Telefé, Fernández assured that he has instructed Foreign Minister Felipe Solá to help those who are abroad with resources until actions can be taken, with the exception of some justified cases.

The announcement takes relevance while the country is under mandatory quarantine and has its borders closed as a measure against the coronavirus.

The president clarified that it is trying to regulate only the income of those over 65 years old because they are the ones who have the most risks. "The rest of you wait a little and we will come to your aid when the risk in Argentina is manageable," he added.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry confirmed to CNN that it does not have an exact number of Argentines seeking to return to the country, but that there would be at least 10,000.

Until this Wednesday, in Argentina, there have been 8 deaths from coronavirus and there are 502 confirmed cases.
