First death at the police headquarters linked to Covid-19 with the death of an administrative agent

According to a police source, the victim who is the first staff of the prefecture of police to die due to the epidemic, is an administrative agent who was assigned to the direction of the general police (DPG) and was not in contact public. The DPG is responsible for implementing the powers of the prefect of police in matters of citizenship, public liberties and administration of foreigners. It deals, for example, with weapons, applications for a national identity card, passport, driving license and registration certificate and processes applications for naturalization. This branch has 900 officers, according to the website of the police headquarters.

The officer, whose age was not specified, had been hospitalized last week after being tested positive for Covid-19. " His colleagues were immediately confined, " said the police source. He died in hospital.

According to a recent report from the Court of Auditors, around 34,000 officers (excluding the Paris fire brigade) are placed under the authority of the prefect of police, including 27,700 police officers.
