The Dachau MVZ is gearing up for an emergency. Three containers in front of the building are to ensure that critically ill corona patients will soon be able to receive intensive medical care. With a forced check in front of the MVZ, the employees have also been protected against unreasonable patients since Thursday.

Dachau - the health department, the media, the doctors have been preaching it for weeks: If you experience symptoms, please call your family doctor first and then wait for further instructions. "Very, very, very many patients adhere to it," praises Dr. Frederic William, internist, cardiologist and emergency doctor at the Dachauer Medical Care Center (MVZ) on Münchner Straße.

But then there were unfortunately a few exceptions. After the callers, according to William, "had waited for maybe two hours for a call back, they suddenly stood at our counter and coughed up their colleagues." In such an "isolated case", in which a Corona patient actually worked for the MVZ staff could have been infected, "our entire system could have been paralyzed," said William.

For this reason, those responsible at the MVZ reacted, with a kind of entrance barrier now being set up in front of the building. Patients who have wanted to go to the MVZ since Thursday will be measured for fever and asked questions. According to William, this would sort as early as possible, "who is potentially infectious and who shows no signs of Corona". Accordingly, the patients would then be directed to the main building - those without infection - or to the neighboring building, where there is a separate infection and fever consultation. In this way, both the MVZ employees and the patients could be better protected.

However, given the number of Corona cases, the MVZ is already thinking ahead, as can be seen in view of the three containers that have been standing in front of the building for a few days. According to William, the containers are not yet in operation, but would be "set up and planned as additional treatment facilities" in the medium term. According to the doctor, this is already building an “infrastructure for the next steps”: Whoever is seriously ill should be able to receive intensive medical treatment in the containers until the emergency doctor arrives.

William may not explicitly confirm that there will be a need for these emergency beds. But the fact is: Of the more than 1200 corona tests that doctors at the MVZ had carried out in the past four weeks, around 100 were positive. "We're just under eight percent," says William.

But in the Dachau MVZ you see yourself prepared for everything. At the end of January, William reports, the first meeting of the "in-house Corona Task Force" took place there. In addition to William, his colleague, the internist Dr. Karl Wilhelm. The task force, according to William, had “observed and tried to understand the Chinese figures from the start”. Therefore, the doctor believes, "we have always been early until now".
