Administrative detention centers (CRAs) can continue to operate. So decided the Council of State in a summary judgment this Friday. It is in these structures that the administration retains illegal immigrants, up to 90 days, if necessary, while awaiting their removal to their countries of origin.

A group of associations, including the Syndicat des Avocats de France or the National Council of Bars, demanded its temporary closure. Reasons invoked by human rights defenders: in the midst of a coronavirus epidemic, residents run the risk of contamination; and then it is almost impossible to expel these illegal aliens within a reasonable time now, due to the lack of international flights.
Extensions applied
Another argument put forward: sending them back would be contrary to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) which aim to limit the danger of spread of the virus.
