In the 11th, 12th, 19th and 20th arrondissements, mass market sales soared by more than 30%, according to this indicator. On the left bank, the 14th arrondissement recorded the same trend. Conversely, in the 1st, 6th, 8th and 9th arrondissements, sales were stable at best, even declining. The center of Paris and other districts have suffered from their side due to the absence of tourists, offices and accommodation usually rented by the week now unoccupied, without forgetting the many shops now closed which also made live via their visitors the snacking departments of the stores ”, explains Rémi Adam, of Nielsen.

+ 60% on the Ile de Ré

These inequalities are also found at the national level. " If sales of consumer products have increased in all departments, they have been in very variable proportions, from + 17% in Savoy to + 49% in the Lot, " says Nielsen.

In detail, the research institute observed the largest increases in cities with more than half of second homes (+ 58%), and up to + 60% on average in seaside resorts. The turnover of large-scale retailers soared by 60% on Île de Ré and Île d'Oléron, by 70% in the Arcachon basin, by 56% in Cabourg, Deauville and Le Touquet. These regions "of an influx of residents during the establishment of containment, benefiting food stores in general," notes Nielsen.

These indicators are in line with the observations of the operator Orange, which has detected movements of Parisian and Ile-de-France subscribers to rural areas and towns on the coast.
