Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, the established parties have seen their citizens rise again, as the latest survey results show.

  • The coronavirus has been a global issue for two months
  • In Germany, the first case occurred in Bavaria
  • The Germans are largely satisfied with the government's crisis management

The Bavarian Ministry of Health had confirmed the first corona case in Germany two months ago. On January 27, it was announced that a 33-year-old man had become infected in his company in a suburb of Munich. In the meantime, more than 43,000 infections with the new corona virus have been registered in Germany. More than 260 infected people have died nationwide (as of March 26, 2020).

Two months later, the majority of Germans are apparently satisfied with the federal government's crisis management. In a survey conducted by the YouGov polling institute on behalf of the DPA, 54 percent rated the black-red cabinet, headed by Chancellor Angela Merkel, as acting rather positively in the crisis. 13 percent even said they were "very satisfied". In contrast, only 38 percent are rather dissatisfied. Eight percent of the respondents did not provide any information. Dealing with the corona crisis is largely viewed positively across party preferences. However, there is one exception: AfD supporters are 68 percent dissatisfied and only 27 percent satisfied.

Corona crisis: Markus Söder is the winner

According to a survey by the Insa Institute, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder, in particular, has seen strong growth in the nation's favor with voters. After that, the CSU boss gets an approval of 156 out of 300 possible points. This is the highest value that has ever been measured for a German politician since the beginning of the surveys in January 2019. For Söder, the value means an improvement of 28 points compared to the previous week.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) came in second with 138 points (plus 12), ahead of Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) with 131 points (plus 6) and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) with 121 points (plus 8).

Corona: Double leaders of the Greens and SPD lose ground

North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) lost one point and ended up in fifth place with 115. His competitor in the race for the CDU chairmanship, Friedrich Merz, gained one point and finished eighth in the approval ranking with 108 points. The third applicant, Norbert Röttgen, lost three points and came in tenth with a total of 97.

Robert Habeck and Annalena Baerbock at the top of the Greens lost one and two points respectively and finished seventh and ninth. The SPD dual leadership with Norbert Walter-Borjans and Saskia Esken also lost: With a minus of four points each, they ended up in 15th and 19th place. FDP boss Christian Lindner got five points and reached 12th place with 92 points.

Corona crisis: Union grows

In general, the Union parties are enjoying growing popularity, according to a Forsa survey. 36 percent of the citizens surveyed would vote for the CDU / CSU if the Bundestag election were on Sunday, as the RTL / ntv trend barometer published on Thursday shows. That is 4 percentage points more than in the previous week. According to Forsa, this is the highest figure since the 2017 federal election.

If it were voted on Sunday, the Greens would get 17 percent (minus 3 compared to the previous week), the SPD would get 16 percent (plus 1) and the AfD would vote 9 percent (plus / minus 0). The left would vote 8 percent (minus 1), the FDP (minus 1) would be 6 percent.

Forsa boss Manfred Güllner said: "The corona crisis is leading to a kind of renaissance of at least one of the two parties that were formerly characterized as' people's parties." "She no longer primarily deals with herself, but takes care of what moves and cares for the citizens." (Skr with agencies)
