Iran's health authorities have announced today that the death toll due to the country's corona virus is 2,378 people, with only 144 dying in the last day.

But despite the high figures provided by the authorities, opposition organizations in the country claim that the regime is deceiving and hiding the real numbers. The leftist opposition Mujahideen Part, which has many underground activists across the country, claims to have conducted a separate count of the victims of the plague in the Islamic Republic, and that the results were far more severe than what Tehran is willing to admit.

According to estimates by the Mujahideen part, 11,900 people died as a result of the virus and most of them were registered under other causes of death, such as the background illnesses that preceded their infection. The organization emphasizes that the death rate in Iran is the highest in the world and claims that this is because of the failing health system of the Ayatollah regime.

The organization went on to state that in the Tehran province alone, 1,650 people died, while in other provinces such as Gulistan and Khuzistan, death rates were high for many thousands.

Two weeks ago, after a visit to Iran, Dr. Rick Brennan, director of the World Health Organization, claimed that the number of people infected and dead as a result of the country's corona virus is five times higher than the official figure provided by the government. "The weakest link in the Iranian emergency apparatus is the ability to collect data," Brennan told Reuters. "They increase their test capacity over time, and then we'll see how the official number of patients climbs."
