Before the run-off vote, our newspaper looks into the candidates for mayor of Ickingen.
Icking - It is going to be exciting again in the Isar valley community. Sunday will decide who will succeed Mayor Margit Menrad. Verena Reithmann of the Independent Citizens List Icking (UBI) and Laura von Beckerath-Leismüller of the Greens compete in the runoff. Since the election campaign came to a standstill due to the corona pandemic, we confronted the two women in writing with five questions.
What do you have ahead of your counterparty?
Leismüller: How many interested voters could experience in Icking, including at the event in Dorfen, I have in front of my opponent that I can prioritize the most important questions 1) from the sometimes confusing abundance of challenges 2) constructively and before everything 3) can communicate in a way that everyone can understand. I believe that many listeners can confirm this.

Reithmann: Six years in the municipal council, 19 years in local politics and in school committees, a law degree, three children from the nest.
What trait do you envy your opponent for?
Leismüller: In order to answer this question, I would have to know Ms. Reithmann personally.
Reithmann: The courage.
The street election campaign has ended due to the corona pandemic: what would you like to say to the Ickingen people personally if it were possible?
Leismüller: I would like to tell everyone that I can understand that election campaigns are currently of no interest to most people in the face of the crisis. However, this is also about setting the course for six years of local politics and design. How do we master the next crises and other challenges of our time? That is why it is so important to choose anyway and to think about the right future Ickings. But one thing is clear: if we all stick together, we can do it!
Reithmann: After the loud election campaign, there is almost a strange silence. In the background, however, a cross-faction crisis team from the municipal council is working on structures for Icking in the crisis situation. The wires run hot.

Leismüller… devote himself again to long-term and local projects and see to it that she overcomes the undoubted economic damage to some extent. However, a problem that often occurs here is the task and responsibility of the community to counter social division and a mood of mutual distrust. These moods automatically arise in exceptions and disaster scenarios in which a society is captivated by fear. I hope, pray and wish very much that we will not experience this in Icking and that social cohesion will remain. I will do everything I can to strengthen it.

Leismüller: In addition to the responsibility of the community mentioned in the previous question to master the consequences of the crisis for Icking, we will of course also prioritize and drive forward other current issues, such as developing a mission statement as soon as meetings are possible and restarting with the riding arena area.
Reithmann : The election does not mean taking office. We can use the good 30 days until then, so that BGMin and future BGM jointly operate crisis management. And that won't end after 30 days. kof
After the election on March 15, the result in Icking was: 41.59 percent for Verena Reithmann (UBI) and 30.42 percent for Laura von Beckerath-Leismüller (Greens). Which of the two women will be the new mayor will be decided on Sunday.
