Doctor in Ecuador: We will receive the most serious by covid-19 2:42
(CNN Spanish) - In Guayaquil, one of the cities with the highest number of coronavirus cases in Ecuador, the construction of a mass grave is planned.
The director of Cleanliness of the Municipality of Guayaquil, Gustavo Zúñiga, said this Friday in an interview with Ecuavisa –a CNN affiliate media– that “an agreement will be implemented to be able to build the corresponding site”.
According to Ecuavisa, the mass grave would have a capacity for 300 bodies. Once the grave is closed, a mausoleum will be built "on top of the site," Zúñiga explained.
In Ecuador, until this Friday, 1,595 confirmed cases of coronavirus are registered. Of these, 1,175 are in the province of Guayas, of which Guayaquil is the capital.
Days ago, the Government decreed to establish Guayas as a special security zone. According to the decree, Guayaquil and other cities in the province will receive "special attention."
Nationally, 36 deaths have been recorded so far.
