Aleida Weil (41) likes to sew. However, the textile designer does not have enough time for creative work. A problem that the mother of two solved with a simple but smart idea.

Stegen - Aleida Weil has patterns such as bags, purses or pen bags printed directly on cotton and linen fabrics with a wide variety of motifs under the key words “cut & sew”. A few weeks ago, she rounded up a couple of friends who were testing their ideas for feasibility.

"Just start cutting?", The test subjects could hardly believe it. "Yes, just cut it off," confirmed the testers, because even the hem is already set off. "Among them were women with no experience of sewing," said Weil. Like Birgit Fazis, who went home with a shopping bag that looks like she bought the piece in the store.

The flawless pen pouches and purses by the eleven-year-old daughter Philine prove that manufacturing is literally child's play. Sewing is not only easier, it also saves you an hour of copying the pattern, which must then be cut out and attached to the fabric with pins, the Inninger calculated.

Name stands for happiness, playfulness and fun in being creative

She christened her product Milly Mint. Mint stands for the pastel colors of the collection. “Milly is just a nice alliteration for the sound. The name stands for happiness, playfulness and the fun of being creative, ”explains the 41-year-old.

Her world is the fashion industry in which she has been working since studying fashion design. As an employee, she most recently designed own brands for Munich fashion house Beck. She then spent a year in California with her husband Christopher and daughters Philine and Clara (9), where the car designer worked temporarily. Since 2013 she has been creating freelance fabrics for Sanetta, among other things. The “MillyMint” collection was also created.

For her customers, she has posted YouTube videos on her homepage, on which she leads step by step from the fabric to the finished product. Sewing instructions in booklet form are sent separately for each delivery, which can be ordered on the MillyMint homepage. "The fabrics are printed and shipped individually by the spoonflower company for each order," says Weil. Threads, needles and zippers still have to be bought.

Ready-made packages similar to the knitting and handicraft sets, which include all work utensils, are planned in the long term. And new patterns for garments. "Not in all sizes," she says. That would go beyond the scope. "I am currently working on a skirt cut in three sizes," she says. And is also considering offering tailor-made products for sewing courses. Of course, this is currently not the trend. For this purpose, she designed greeting cards for coloring to all grandmas and grandpas who, because of the risk of infection with the corona virus, are not allowed to see their grandchildren.

The corona virus also has the district of Starnberg under control. There is now a new test station at Andechs Monastery. There have been sobering words regarding the exit restriction.

Creative ideas are born of the crisis. One of them comes from the Herrschinger trade association WiR.
