The government of state selection and the triumph of truth

It is very, very early, to talk about a legacy of a government that has not yet been established, of which the division of files is not yet final, that has not yet begun to function, and that the real, difficult and cruel challenge has always been before it. But there are signs already: what this government will remember, and what it can remember.

It will be remembered first of all as a state and national choice over personal and vengeful faces. It is a pity to utter words about the behavior of Lapid, Ya'alon, Lieberman: It is clear what they feel is urgent in the days of a national epidemic: to replace Netanyahu, and if that fails, then make it more difficult for the government. "Trill" in emergencies.

This government will be remembered as the state of choice government, and perhaps even the triumphant government of truth. Because that's what we've been experiencing since the election and more recently this week: a Pike News attack led by the "No-Bibby" bloc. Invented catchy slogans - "Stealing us the state" and "Closing us the Knesset" and what not. Yair Lapid and Ofer Shalah, together with Major General Yair Golan and Chairman Meretz Nitzan, led demonstrations with black flags, set out to save democracy. An atmosphere of instability and collapse.

The outgoing Knesset chairman was at the center of the Pike News attack: It did not help that Edelstein politely disbanded and tolerated all his opponents' claims. Reasonable - Became the number one enemy of the week.

And when such a storm comes in the present age, it cannot be stopped. Seeders of the storm will easily find allies in the media, but especially with the Attorney General and the Supreme Court. This collaboration forced Edelstein to resign in a knightly protest act.

But reality has proven that in the end, the truth is all over Pike News. Democracy did not disappear even for a moment, and the Knesset did not even close for a minute. The falsehoods returned like a boomerang to the "just-not-bibby" block, which fell apart. If there is little fairness and integrity, Edelstein should re-chair the Knesset. Some of his considerations were the use of all the legitimate parliamentary tools agreed in the Knesset's law and regulations to allow coalition negotiations to exhaust itself in an unprecedented crisis.

The emergency government is the state-wide answer to the torch-sending and disqualification politics of Lieberman-Yalon-Lieberman. It's a feat to be credited: in times of crisis and uncertainty, at least the forces have been found to bring a gospel of stability and unity to the public.

But this government, after successfully managing the Corona crisis, can exploit unity to exhaust one more thing: the Centennial Plan. And it will have full legitimacy: it brings with it security powers and broad agreement. It is a government that is at the center of the national, Zionist and Jewish consensus - and it is an asset that will enable it to work to establish Israel's borders.

With little time left in the Corona war, Netanyahu and Gantz can enter history not only thanks to the national gospel they brought, but also as those who bring the State of Israel to the security map.

The century plan may determine the essence and future of Israel as a Jewish state, and only with the embrace of the left and the center-left together with the national camp, led by Trump and Netanyahu, can history be determined after the Corona crisis. This is an irreversible opportunity, and it is to be hoped that just as they both understood the size of the hour in the face of the epidemic, so will they understand the magnitude of their historical responsibility.
