Local elections 2020 in the district of Munich: Mayor candidates in the overview

District - Local elections are held in Bavaria every six years, the next time on Sunday, March 15, 2020. There are also a large number of candidates in the Munich district - for the office of mayor and seats in the municipal council or city council . Not only applicants from the various parties compete, but also representatives from many local voter groups.

It is difficult for voters to keep an overview. Munich's Merkur reports extensively on the 2020 local elections in the district - here the candidates from the 29 district municipalities are listed. Merkur.de provides the results for the district in a separate result text . You can find the latest news about the election in the news ticker for the Munich district and our ticker for Bavaria and the city of Munich.

The district council - candidates for the district of Munich:

  • CSU: The district council around incumbent Christoph Göbel
  • Greens: The district day list for district administrator candidate Christoph Nadler
  • SPD: The district council around district council candidate Annette Ganssmüller-Maluche
  • Free voters: The district council list for district council candidate Otto Bußjäger
  • FDP: The district council around district administrator Michael Ritz
  • AfD: The district council around district council candidate Gerold Otten
  • ÖDP: The district council list without a district candidate
  • The left: The district council list without a district candidate

Aschheim

The community of Aschheim is the last bastion of the CSU, where the mayor and the municipal council group have an absolute majority. In addition, the CSU and SPD are very close on many issues. The election will change the picture because the Greens will certainly move into the local council as a fourth group. The CSU majority is likely to disappear. Favorite is CSU Mayor Thomas Glashauser, whom his challengers have already annoyed. FW applicant Eugen Stubenvoll initiated the successful citizens' decision on road development and Sabine Maier (Greens) led the movement against a slaughterhouse. The fourth candidate is the experienced local politician Ingrid Lenz-Aktas (SPD). nb

  • SPD: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Ingrid Lenz-Aktas
  • Free voters: The local council list
  • Greens: The municipal council list

Aying

After 24 years, Hans Eichler (PWH) will no longer run as city councilor and thus make room for a new mayor. Two women and three men apply for the office. It does not need a prophet that there will be a runoff election. Hermann Oswald (PWH) and Christine Squarra (Greens) should have good chances to get into them. Both are already represented in the local council and have been able to gain political experience accordingly. And they stand out due to their contributions. Peter Wagner (CSU) also has such experiences. For Erich Leiter (SPD) and Carla Spindler, on the other hand, this is new territory, although Spindler is often encountered in community life. wjr

  • Greens: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Christine Squarra
  • SPD: Mayor candidate Erich Leiter and the SPD municipal council list
  • Independent: Mayor candidate Carla Spindler
  • PWH: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Hermann Oswald
  • CSU: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Peter Wagner
  • FWGA: The local council list

Baierbrunn

In the last regular municipal election in Baierbrunn there was only one candidate - Barbara Angermaier. The BIG representative then did the race, of course, but threw the towel four years later, exasperated. Wolfgang Jirschik from the ÜWG became interim mayor - and now, in 2020, there are four candidates to choose from in the second smallest municipality in the district: Felix Maiwald from the CSU, Patrick Ott and Reinhard Löhr, both of whom were once at the CSU and now go into the race for the ÜWG and the FDP, as well as the SPD politician Uwe Harfich, who wants to pick up on the times when the Social Democrats and Christine Kammermeier long put the town hall boss in Baierbrunn. ak

  • ÜWG: The list of local councils for mayor candidate Patrick Ott (incumbent Wolfgang Jirschik no longer runs)
  • CSU: Mayor candidate Felix Maiwald and the CSU list
  • SPD: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Uwe Harfich
  • Greens: The municipal council list
  • FDP: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Reinhard Löhr

Brunnthal

Clear fronts in Brunnthal. The candidate show with incumbent Stefan Kern (CSU) and the non-partisan candidate Jürgen Gott, who is racing for an alliance of PWB, UBW, Greens and SPD, is clear. The citizen has the choice between an experienced city hall chief Kern who has been in office since 2002 and the businessman Gott, who is also well networked in the area. Continuity of the favorite and incumbent versus fresh wind. Both have coherent concepts for a growing community with growing tasks. From commercial infrastructure to improved public transport connections. No matter who makes the race. The tasks are not getting any smaller in the Munich bacon belt and the necessary agenda is getting longer. hh

  • CSU: Mayor candidate Stefan Kern
  • PWB: The list of local councils around Mayor candidate Jürgen Gott (supported by UBW, SPD and Greens)
  • UBW and Free Voters: The Municipal Council List
  • SPD: municipal council list

Feldkirchen

Feldkirchen was never an SPD stronghold, but had a comrade as mayor for twelve years. Incumbent Werner van der Weck was elected for the second term in 2014 with over 53 percent. But van der Weck no longer competes and has little backing in his own warehouse. The finances are good, all children have childcare places, the place is safe. But the SPD, like the other factions, accuse van der Weck that everything is happening far too slowly. The candidates Christian Wilhelm (SPD), Andreas Janson (UWV) and Stefan Seiffert (CSU) have ambitious plans. No one will make it straight away, it will be exciting to see who comes in the runoff. Common topics: business settlement, apartments, traffic congestion. bb

  • CSU: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Stefan Seiffert
  • UWV: The list of local councils for candidate for mayor Andreas Janson
  • Greens: The municipal council list without candidates for mayor
  • SPD: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Christian Wilhelm

Garching

Affordable housing and increasing traffic are the defining issues of the campaign in Garching. There is also childcare, nature and climate protection and geothermal energy. Dietmar Gruchmann (SPD) wants to defend his armchair against five other candidates, all of whom come from the ranks of the City Council: Norbert Fröhler (BfG), Jürgen Ascherl (CSU), Bastian Dombret (FDP), Dr. Hans-Peter Adolf (Greens) and Harald Grünwald (UG). Gruchmann made no big mistakes that his opponents could accuse him of. One of his greatest successes is that the development of the communication zone is now gaining momentum. Should there be a runoff election, his opponent will probably be Jürgen Ascherl. bb

  • CSU: The city council list for Mayor candidate Jürgen Ascherl
  • SPD: The city council list
  • Greens: The city council list for candidate for mayor Hans-Peter Adolf
  • Independent Garchingers: The city council list around Mayor candidate Harald Grünwald
  • Citizens for Garching: The city council list for Mayor candidate Norbert Fröhler
  • FDP: Mayor candidate Bastian Dombret and the city council list

Graefelfing

In the municipality of Gräfelfing, five candidates are applying for the post of mayor. Incumbent Uta Wüst (IGG) faces the following challengers: Peter Köstler (CSU), Martin Feldner (The Greens), Anette Kitzmann-Waterloo (SPD) and Florian Ernstberger (BVGL). Ernstberger had been mayor of the IGG for three quarters of a year, but was defeated by competitor Christoph Göbel (CSU) in the 2003 ruling redial. Ernstberger also competed in the election six years ago, this time for the BVGL, and narrowly missed out on third place, which Wüst and Köstler made up among themselves.

  • CSU: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Peter Köstler
  • Greens: Mayor candidate Martin Feldner and the municipal council list
  • SPD: Mayor candidate Anette Kitzmann-Waterloo and the municipal council list
  • BVGL: The list of local councils around the mayor candidate Florian Ernstberger
  • IGG: Mayor candidate Uta Wüst and the municipal council list
  • FDP: The local council list

Grasbrunn

In his second term, incumbent Klaus Korneder (SPD) made no "mistakes". Finances have continued to improve significantly, when the ex-finance officer took office, the municipality had reserves of 600,000 euros, at the end of 2019 it was 15 million euros. A lot was set in motion: more childcare places, new community staff, the bike path from Grasbrunn to the sports park, the gymnasium is planned and the Neukeferloh roundabout is completed. Detlef Wildenheim (CSU), Johannes Seitner (FW) and Max Walleitner (Greens) compete against Korneder. None of the three can be really dangerous to Korneder, just the displeasure of numerous citizens who are resisting the truck flood and the lawn. bb

  • SPD: The municipal council list around incumbent Klaus Korneder
  • CSU: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Detlef Wildenheim
  • Greens: The list of municipal councils around Mayor candidate Max Walleitner
  • FWG: The list of local councils around mayor candidate Johannes Seitner
  • FDP: The local council list

Grünwald

Grünwalds Mayor Jan Neusiedl (CSU) has two challengers. He has been sitting in the executive chair of the town hall for 18 years - and that will probably remain so. Many Grünwald residents were worried last year because Neusiedl spent several months on sick leave. What he lacked was not to be made public. He has now recovered and will face his competitors as the undisputed favorite. On the one hand there is Sandra Gutheil from the PBG, who in the past appeared as the chair of the tennis friends Grünwald. FDP district chairman Michael Ritz confidently throws his hat into the ring. The Greens and SPD, on the other hand, do not have their own applicants. msc

  • FDP: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Michael Ritz
  • PBG: The list of local councils around Mayor candidate Sandra Gutheil
  • Greens: The municipal council list
  • SPD: The local council list

hair

Mayor Gabriele Müller (SPD) is dealing with three challengers, all of them have a doctorate - and none has been a member of the local council so far. The CSU sends Andreas Bukowski into the race, the Greens compete with Ulrich Leiner and the FDP with Peter Siemsen. The decisive factor will be the extent to which federal trends penetrate hair. Is the municipality on the outskirts of the city with its 22,000 inhabitants already so anonymous that the SPD suffers massive losses, or does the solidarity “Haar family” that Gabriele Müller likes to conjure up and that has been cruising with SPD candidates for decades still work here . The strongest challenger is the 40-year-old Bukowski, despite green heights.

  • SPD: The municipal council list around incumbent Gabriele Müller
  • CSU: The list of local councils around mayor candidate Andreas Bukowski
  • Greens: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Ulrich Leiner
  • FDP: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Peter Siemsen

Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn

Regardless of who you are talking to at the moment, everyone puzzles which candidates will be put into the runoff. Because everyone will agree that there will be a runoff. Eventually, the long-time mayor Ursula Mayer (CSU) no longer competes - and four candidates apply for the successor. Many of the relatively unknown Karsten Voges (Greens) is considered the biggest outsider, even if his party is still on the up. Mindy Konwitschny (SPD), currently second mayor, is well networked, as is the party-free UB candidate Andrea Hanisch. For this reason, CSU candidate Roland Spingler cannot be sure of getting enough votes. sw

  • CSU: Mayor candidate Roland Spingler and the municipal council list
  • Greens: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Carsten Voges
  • SPD: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Mindy Konwitschny
  • UB: The list of local councils around the mayor candidate Andrea Hanisch (party-free)
  • AFW: The local council list

Hohenbrunn

Hohenbrunn's City Hall chief Stefan Straßmair (CSU) currently has two competitors for the office of mayor. Just like in the last local election in 2012. At that time he prevailed in the first ballot. Straßmair will not have it that easy this time. Because two women want his post: Anke Lunemann (Greens) and Pauline Miller (Citizens' Forum). The latter should make it into a possible runoff election. And then it could be a tough game for Stefan Straßmair, because the citizens' forum is very networked, has free voters on its side and draws attention to itself through very committed public relations work. The aim should be to keep the formerly strong CSU small. wjr

  • CSU: incumbent Stefan Straßmair and the municipal council list
  • Greens: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Anke Lunemann
  • Citizens' Forum (with ÜWG-FW): The list of local councils around Mayor candidate Pauline Miller
  • SPD: The local council list
  • FDP: The local council list

Ismaning

The municipality of Ismaning is doing better than ever, it is being built on every nook and corner. Nevertheless, the financial situation of the municipality remains good. Therefore, there are few points of attack against SPD Mayor Alexander Greulich, who wants to know it again after his first six years in office. In the municipal council, the Ismaninger traditionally have three groups of approximately the same size with CSU, FWG and SPD. The question is whether the Greens can enter the phalanx through the federal political trend. And should Greulich, as expected, be re-elected, it is between Ismaninger Max Kraus (FWG) and the newcomer Annette Reiter-Schumann (CSU) who will ultimately be the second mayor. nb

  • CSU: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Annette Reiter-Schumann
  • Greens: The municipal council list
  • Free voters: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Max Kraus
  • SPD: The local council list around incumbent and mayor candidate Alexander Greulich

Kirchheim

In the 2014 election, the young municipal councilor Maximilian Böltl surprisingly won back the town hall chair for the Christian Socialists against Stephan Keck (SPD). Together with the votes of the ÖDP and FDP and for three years now also that of the SPD, the CSU was able to implement its ideas. Since the SPD does not list its own mayor candidate and supports Böltl, his re-election is guaranteed. The opposing candidates Wolfgang Heinz-Fischer (VFW) and Rüdiger Zwarg (Greens) can therefore only fight for success. The population is convinced that something has moved noticeably in the village since Böltl and is behind the Mammut projects new center 2030 and state garden show 2024. bb

  • CSU: The list of local councils around Mayor candidate Maximilian Böltl.
  • SPD: The municipal council list without a candidate for mayor.
  • Greens: The list of municipal councils around the mayor candidate Rüdiger Zwarg
  • FDP: The municipal council list without candidates for mayor
  • VFW / LWK: Common candidate for mayor and list of local councils
  • Future generation: The municipal council list

Neubiberg

Four candidates are fighting to succeed Mayor Günter Heyland (FW.N@U). The race seems open. With Thomas Pardeller (CSU), Kilian Körner (Greens) and Reiner Höcherl (FW.N@U) three municipal councilors throw their hats in the ring. SPD applicant Elisabeth Gerner is also very familiar with the tough struggle as local chairperson, especially when it comes to renovating the town hall. Whole groups could mutate to tip the scales of an election outcome that is very scarcely to be expected. While the student association “USU” spoke out early on in support of Pardeller, the local FDP supports Reiner Höcherl. Uncertain also the role of the Greens: King Grains or King Makers? hh

  • FW.N@U: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Reiner Höcherl
  • CSU: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Thomas Pardeller
  • Greens: The list of municipal councils for Mayor candidate Kilian Körner
  • SPD: The list of municipal councils around the mayor candidate Elisabeth Gerner
  • USU: The local council list supports CSU candidate Thomas Pardeller
  • FDP: The local council list supports the FW candidate Reiner Höcherl

Neuried

In Neuried, Mayor Harald Zipfel (SPD) faces two challengers: Marianne Hellhuber (CSU) and Oliver Schulze Nahrup (FDP). Zipfel had replaced the then CSU incumbent Ilse Weiß six years ago. The SPD politician is also the official candidate for mayor of Alliance 90 / The Greens. Marianne Hellhuber is the CSU chairwoman.

  • SPD: incumbent Harald Zipfel and the municipal council list
  • Alliance Future Neuried: The municipal council list
  • Alliance 90 / The Greens: The municipal council list
  • CSU: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Marianne Hellhuber
  • FDP: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Oliver Schulze Nahrup

Oberhaching

In Oberhaching, incumbent mayor Stefan Schelle (CSU) faces three challengers: Margit Markl (SPD) throws her hat in the ring for the second time, and Axel Schmidt (FDP) and Dirk Schneider (free citizens) also want to gather the voters behind them . Schelle has been in the executive chair for 18 years and, as a born Oberhachinger, knows the community in detail. Markl was also born in Oberhaching, has experience in local politics, has been a member of the local council and has been networked in local associations for many years. She hopes to score with topics such as affordable living space, the turnaround in traffic and climate protection. Schmidt is above all a thorn in the side of the too strict building regulations. In addition, he currently misses an "entrepreneurial look" in the town hall. dv

  • CSU: The municipal council list around incumbent Stefan Schelle
  • SPD: The list of municipal councils around the mayor candidate Margit Markl
  • Voting community WGO: The municipal council list
  • FDP: The list of municipal councils around Mayor candidate Axel Schmidt
  • Greens: The municipal council list
  • Free citizens: List of municipal councils for mayor candidate Dirk Schneider

Oberschleissheim

He has shown that Mayor Christian Kuchlbauer (FW) is not afraid of controversial tasks and can take criticism. Many controversial issues dominated political events. On the one hand, there was the citizens' decision to underpass the B 471, which the free voters have made and enforced. Or the development in Mittenheim, which received a lot of criticism. Kuchlbauer's opponents are Ingrid Lindbüchl (Greens), Harald Müller (SPD) and Casimir Katz (FDP). The CSU has also set up a candidate with Markus Böck after it looked for a long time as if the Christian Socialists would not find anyone. Ultimately, the Oberschleissheimers expect one thing from their mayor: to finally put an end to the mass traffic in the village. on

  • Greens: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Ingrid Lindbüchl
  • CSU: The new CSU list with mayor candidate Markus Böck
  • FDP: The list of local councils around the mayor candidate Casimir Katz
  • SPD: The list of local councils around Mayor candidate Harald Müller

Ottobrunn

Mayor Thomas Loderer (CSU) cannot rest comfortably on the official chair. The CSU parliamentary group has the majority in the municipal council, but one, Matthias Klebel, moved to the BVO parliamentary group in November because of displeasure. In his third candidacy after 2007, Loderer is dealing with two competitors. There was also a third from time to time: Bernhard Senft, the candidate of the "Party Pirates", a joint list of pirates and the party. In the end, the candidacy failed due to insufficient signatures of supporters. But Loderer has to deal with the content of Sabine Athens (SPD) and Tanja Campbell (Greens). The question will be who is most likely to be able to advance the upcoming projects well. msc

  • SPD: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Sabine Athens
  • FDP: The municipal council list without candidates for mayor

  • ÖDP: The local council list

Planegg

The record number of eight candidates applied for the executive chair in the Planegger town hall. The current incumbent Heinrich Hofmann (SPD) can no longer run for reasons of age. The applicants are: Hermann Nafziger (CSU), Judith Grimme (Alliance 90 / The Greens), Dr. Cornelia David (free voters dynamic), Christine Berchtold (SPD), Philipp Pollems (party-free candidate for the FDP), Angelika Lawo (green group 21), Susanne Trenkle (independent mayor Planegg-Martinsried) and Astrid Pfeiffer (group of voters for Planegg and Martinsried) ).

  • Alliance 90 / The Greens: The list of municipal councils for Mayor candidate Judith Grimme
  • CSU. The municipal council list for mayor candidate Hermann Nafziger

Pullach

The Pullach Green Mayor Susanna Tausendfreund won a whopping 70 percent in the run-off election against her rival from the CSU, Andreas Most, almost six years ago. The professional local politician, who has to deal with a rather difficult municipal council in which there are no fixed majorities, wants to know again. She is standing for election again and has to defend her program against four challengers. In the Isartalgemeinde, all the groups represented in the municipal plenum have nominated their own candidates this time. These are: Christine Eisenmann from the CSU, Michael Schönlein from the SPD, the FDP politician Michael Reich and Reinhard Vennekold from the WiP. ak

  • WiP: Mayor candidate Reinhard Vennekold
  • CSU: The list of local councils around the mayor candidate Christine Eisenmann
  • SPD: The municipal council list around the mayor candidate Michael Schönlein
  • FDP: The municipal council candidates around the mayor candidate Michael Reich

Putzbrunn

In the municipality of Putzbrunn, no new mayor will be elected for the upcoming municipal election, since incumbent Edwin Klostermeier was confirmed in office outside the municipal election cycle in 2018. Yes

Sauerlach

A head-to-head race for the Rathaus chair is taking place in Sauerlach. The current mayor Barbara Bogner (UBV) has owned it since 2008. Hubert Zellner (CSU), the municipal building manager, now wants to contest Bogner. Is the third party laughing in the end? Because with a professor. Ursula Gresser also sends the FDP a candidate into the race. A party that is not represented in the current local council. After ten years of abstinence in Sauerlach, the local group was founded in 2015. The UBV currently has eight seats (plus Bogner) ahead of the CSU (7), the Greens (3) and the SPD (2). A rejuvenation and renewal of the 21-member panel is announced by the parties' already proposed candidates for the council. kko

  • UBV: The municipal council list around incumbent Barbara Bogner
  • Greens: The municipal council list
  • FDP: List of municipal councils around the mayor candidate Ursula Gresser
  • SPD: The municipal council list around the mayor candidate Babak Afshar

Schaftlarn

After incumbent Matthias Rudorfer (CSU) no longer runs, Schäftlarn has the choice between three candidates for mayor: First of all, CSU candidate Christian Fürst (43), who has been on the council for his parliamentary group for 18 years and has already contributed to some difficult decisions. The second in the group is environmental engineer Marcel Tonnar (49), who competes as a non-party for the Greens. For him, just like for civil engineer and candidate of the community union (GU), Christine Keller (44), the political banquet is new territory. But there are also similarities: All three are involved in clubs and aim to seek dialogue with the citizen so that they can be better involved in decisions. sh

  • Community of municipalities: The municipal council list led by Mayor candidate Christine Keller
  • Greens: The municipal council list for candidate for mayor Marcel Tonnar
  • UWG: The municipal council list (without candidate for mayor)

Straßlach-Dingharting

Hans Sienerth, the party-free mayor of Straßlach-Dingharting, has been sitting in the executive chair of the town hall since 2008 - and can also sit back and relax in the light of the upcoming municipal elections. As in 2014, in the small-scale municipality - with at least six independent groups of voters and parties - no one found himself in the municipal council who wanted to challenge him, so once again he has no opposing candidate. Six years ago, he was confirmed with a remarkable 90.4 percent of the vote. In a good mood, he recently headed the citizens' meeting, celebrated the double birthday of his adopted home and invited to the New Year's reception. ak

Taufkirchen

Five candidates want to become mayor: The CSU once again sends the party-free incumbent Ullrich Sander (55) into the race. After his controversial predecessor Jörg Pötke, things have calmed down again in the town hall. With Matteo Dolce (30), the SPD has chosen a fairly young, sunny-looking candidate. In terms of awareness, however, he still has a lot to do. The same applies to the committed Greens candidate, David Grothe (33). For the FDP, its chairman Maike Vatheuer-Seele (47) is entering the race. So far, she has not been on the municipal council. Michael Lilienthal (65), the last of the free voters who had already competed, was the last to throw his hat in the ring. do

Unterfoehring

Andreas Kemmelmeyer spun the wheel for six years and got one project after another going. Although he does not have a majority in the municipal council with his PWU. The 53-year-old stands for pragmatic politics. It is questionable whether he will get more than 50 percent straight away or whether he will have to be selected. His challengers are all faction leaders. Master carpenter Manfred Axenbeck (CSU) has been a member of the local council for 30 years, as has Johannes Mecke (Greens). Only the young SPD candidate Philipp Schwarz is a newcomer, but still known to many Unterföhringers as the son of the former mayor. New and an outsider on the political stage is the applicant for the FDP, Raphael Gutmann. icb

  • Greens: The municipal council list for mayor candidate Johannes Mecke

  • FDP: The municipal council list for Mayor candidate Raphael Gutmann

Unterhaching

A candidate quartet is courting the executive chair in the Unterhachinger Rathaus. After two terms of office, Wolfgang Panzer (SPD), mayor for twelve years, is the favorite. If he still had to run for the second round in 2008, Panzer prevailed in 2014 in the first round with almost 53 percent. The core question seems to be again this time: runoff vote or not? With Renate Fichtinger, the CSU offers a political newcomer, the FDP with Peter Hupfauer, a longstanding member of the local council. Armin Konetschny (Greens), who was a member of the municipal council from 1990 to 1996, could benefit from the global climate discussion. The free voters will not be candidates this year. mbe

Unterschleissheim

The incumbent Christoph Böck (SPD) in Unterschleissheim is always concerned with objectivity and professionalism. The town hall manager set two milestones with the plans for the urban center and the residential area on the business campus and involved the citizens in the planning. That upgrades his balance sheet. His challengers hope that he will not win the first ballot. Above all, the second mayor Stefan Krimmer (CSU), known as the caretaker, goes out of his way to catch votes. Newcomer Tino Schlagintweit (Greens) is completely committed to protecting the climate and nature, and the opinionable architect Martin Reichart (Free Citizen), who has been working on the City Council for 16 years, also wants to score points. icb
