More than 10,000 deaths in Italy from covid-19 0:46
(CNN) - The first case of coronavirus that the WHO reported - and that would be the start of a global crisis that has half the world quarantined three months later - was registered on December 31, 2019, with one case of a Unknown virus that was said to be a cousin of the deadly SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) virus that left just over 8,000 cases and 774 deaths worldwide at the beginning of the last decade.
The new coronavirus originated in China, and the first cases, when the virus was unknown, were recorded in Wuhan, a city in central China's Hubei province, from December 12 to 29. Three months later, the hardest blow has been suffered by countries such as Italy, Spain and the United States, the latter, with the highest number of registered cases in the world.
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. Viruses can make people sick, usually with mild to moderate disease of the upper respiratory tract, similar to a common cold. Symptoms of the coronavirus include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache, and perhaps fever, which can last for a couple of days.

The new virus is so deadly that it went from causing a death in Wuhan, China in mid-January to more than 36,000 by the end of March worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University count. The confirmed infections between December 31, 2019 and March 30, 2020 are more than 770,000.
There is still no cure for the new coronavirus. And while research is progressing, it could be more than a year before a vaccine is available.

Japanese authorities confirm that a Japanese man, who traveled to Wuhan, is infected with the virus.
January 17, 2020 - USA IMPLEMENT SECURITY MEASURES AT AIRPORTS
Chinese health officials confirm that a second person has died in China. The United States is responding to the outbreak by implementing symptom screening tests at San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles airports.
January 20, 2020 - USA BEGIN VACCINE INVESTIGATIONS
The National Institutes of Health announce that it is working on a vaccine against the new coronavirus. "The INS are in the process of taking the first steps toward developing a vaccine," says Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
