The CDU parliamentary group leader Michael Boddenberg is the successor to Thomas Schäfer (CDU) who died unexpectedly last Saturday (March 28, 2020). This is announced by the Hessischer Rundfunk. He takes over the leadership of the Hessian Ministry of Finance.
Boddenberg paid tribute to Thomas Schäfer
Prime Minister Volker Bouffier wants to introduce Boddenberg in a video booth in Wiesbaden at 1 p.m. and present the certificate of appointment to the CDU politician.
Next Friday the state parliament is to meet for a special session and legitimize the replacement of the post in accordance with Article 101 of the state constitution.
Boddenberg is considered a confidant of Bouffier
Michael Boddenberg, 60, has been chairman of the CDU parliamentary group since 2014. Before that he was Hessian Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Plenipotentiary of the State of Hesse to the Federal Government. He is considered a confidante of the Prime Minister of Hesse Volker Bouffier.
The previous incumbent Thomas Schäfer died at the age of 54. According to the latest findings, the investigators assume suicide. Schafer had been traded as Bouffier's successor. In an obituary, Boddenberg had honored Schäfer as a "great colleague" and trusting friend. (ktho)
