It is an anniversary year for the popular concert series "Music in the Pfaffenwinkel": For 30 years, the popular event in summer has delighted fans of good classical music with a top-class program. It is not yet certain whether this year too.
Landkreis - In 1960, the then music director Joseph Kraus and the chamber singer Horst Laubenthal founded this festive concert series, which takes place regularly in the summer months in the churches of Pfaffenwinkel, mostly the Wieskirche. This year again, very special pieces are on the agenda with works including a symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, a requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a mass by Johann Hummel and a suite by Edward Grieg.
However, it is uncertain whether the six planned events will take place in the form and on the scheduled dates - beginning in late June. The corona crisis may also put a spanner in the works here. Because, of course, the choir and orchestral rehearsals that would normally be in full swing are canceled. And whether Christian Fröhlich as Artistic Director can make up for the missing rehearsals by June, should there be a defusing of the initial restrictions, is uncertain.
Management does not want to make a forecast yet
The board of the sponsoring association as the sponsor of the concert series "Music in the Pfaffenwinkel" keeps a low profile on request whether the events take place as planned, since the concerts are only scheduled in three or four months. "The board of directors will not give any interviews or forecasts at this time, since all of this would only be in the area of speculation. Our choir rehearsals are suspended until after the Easter holidays, our singers are, so to speak, in the 'home office' ”, is the written statement. A final decision would be made in a timely manner and in accordance with official requirements, the statement continued.
Everything is still open for the “Festive Summer in the Meadow” series
The event series "Festive Summer in the Meadows", which takes place parallel to the concert series "Music in the Pfaffenwinkel" and is also very popular, is equally affected. Here, too, the opinion on possible concert cancellations coincides with that from the other series of events: “Choir rehearsals have not been allowed since March. Since it is still completely unclear how the situation will develop and when politics and church administrations will reopen public spaces and churches and allow events, all statements at the current time would be pure speculation, ”writes Ute Zimmer from the association“ Festlicher Sommer in der Wies ”.

Christoph Garbe as artistic director of this concert series does not yet want to give any precise information at this point. In any case, the programs are already printed. “Also this year, visitors to the concert series 'Festive Summer in the Wies' can look forward to a diverse concert program, in which spiritual and secular works in small groups, but also in large choirs. And instrumental concerts find their place ”, patron Theo Waigel wrote in his greeting to this concert series and wishes the esteemed audience a lot of joy. It is hoped that this will happen.
