He no longer competed. But Otterfing's mayor Jakob Eglseder finds it difficult to digest the defeat of his CSU in the mayoral runoff.
Otterfing - The CSU voted out of the top of the town hall, SPD candidate Michael Falkenhahn as the new clock instead of the CSU applicant Robert Schüßlbauer - a bitter pill for the 62-year-old incumbent. "People are resigned," says Eglseder, for whom the last month of his 18-year term begins tomorrow.
On election evening he congratulated his successor, who received 195 votes more than Schüßlbauer (53.4 percent), on the victory. "I expressed an urgent request to take good care of the place." He would offer a "reasonable handover" and would no longer place any important orders.
The election result confirms his analysis "that urban structures are getting closer", says Eglseder; a growing number of community citizens are "not very familiar with village structures". His CSU may have underestimated the election campaign, unfortunately the "old" free voters (FWO) did not support Schüßlbauer before the runoff. He had little to blame himself for. "I always hear that something has to change in Otterfing. But nobody can tell me what should change. ”He surrendered orderly and stable finances.

The increase in votes (203) in his “home” electoral district on the train station side of the village was decisive for Falkenhahn's victory. There is the skating ground, on the site of which the municipality is planning a new gym, which Falkenhahn rejects. Was that the deciding factor? In the electoral district north-west of the town crossing, the candidates were exactly the same (461 votes each), and Schüßlbauer even won the south - but only by eight votes. Of the 3,668 eligible voters, 2,857 had cast their vote, due to corona only via postal vote. Election manager Markus Stark had to sort out 24 invalid ballots.
By choosing Falkenhahn as mayor, his place in the new municipal council becomes vacant. As a successor to the SPD list, Max Ruf slips into the committee, which is currently also on the town council. Ruf forms the new, three-member SPD faction together with Andreas Eichhorn and Roberto Sottanelli.
