Sluyterman: "I'm Mayor for All"

Mayor Falk Sluyterman has not yet had much time to celebrate his runoff election - he continues to work in corona crisis mode. Opposing candidate Hans Rehbehn has also moved on to day-to-day business and can once again concentrate fully on his office in the district office. Congratulations come from the other Schongau groups, but reluctantly.

Schongau - The big unknown of the runoff election was the postal vote, an audibly relieved Falk Sluyterman summed up the result on the runoff election evening. 51.3 percent of the voters had opted for the incumbent SPD mayor, 48.7 percent for the party-free challenger Hans Rehbehn, who stood for the CSU (we reported). Also, the first result of the extrapolation was not so clear that one could have felt safe, said Sluyterman. It is also difficult for many voters to distinguish between personality choices and party choices, and running for the SPD is currently not a bonus. "I am glad and grateful that it worked again," said Sluyterman, who reaffirmed: "I am mayor of all."

Hans Rehbehn keeps his office in the district office

Hans Rehbehn, who now keeps his two offices in the district office in Weilheim and Schongau, is also concentrating again on the corona crisis, "this will also accompany us politically until May, possibly into the summer." The future CSU city council expects that guidelines from the Ministry of the Interior will appear in the course of the next week. It is conceivable that a constituent meeting with masks and gloves is also imminent in Schongau, as was the case recently when the Slovak government was sworn in. "These are pictures for eternity."

Thanks to the election workers and city employees

One will worry about that in the course of the week, according to election manager Bettina Schade. Before the constituent meeting at the beginning of May, among other things, she had planned an information event for the new city councils, which could possibly not take place in this way. Afterwards, she thanks the around 40 election helpers and employees from the administration, kindergartens and the building yard who helped distribute the election documents.

Daniela Puzzovio, who stood for ALS as a candidate for mayor and won 14.1 percent, is also looking forward to a constructive cooperation. Sluyterman has often stressed that the opinion of the citizens is very important to him and that he has an open ear for it. "So I can imagine that this result is not so easy for him, even if he can continue to hold the office." She indicated that almost half of those who had exercised their right to vote were in favor of a change .

"Can't understand how to throw away voting rights"

Bettina Buresch (Greens) described the turnout better, but not satisfactorily (59.5 percent on run-off election Sunday, 53.7 percent two weeks ago). "I can't understand how you can just throw away your voting rights," said Buresch. "Consequently, non-voters should refrain from criticizing political processes." Sluyterman would not be really happy with his election results, Buresch continued. "He should take to heart that he was not more convincing and work on himself." She hoped that the two opponents would now put off "their campaign-related aggressions".

Congratulations to Sluyterman for the successful re-election and to Rehbehn for the "very respectable result" formulated Stephan Hild for the UWV. "After the election campaign got a bit out of hand in the end, we are looking forward to the work of the city council again and we hope that everyone involved as Democrats will accept the election result and be fully committed to Schongau."

"Bad result for incumbent mayor"

"This is a bad result for an incumbent mayor," summarizes Nina Konstantin, ALS local chairwoman. "He has to think about why." She looks with concern at the future climate in the city council - "especially if Alexander Majaru moves up." The latter had recently published tasteless Anti-Rehbehn pictures.

Whether Majaru accepted his mandate, Schongau's election manager wanted to make this call on Monday. If Majaru refuses, Tobias Fuhrmann could become a city councilor. The strongest faction is the CSU (eight seats), followed by the SPD (6), the UWV (4), the Greens (3) and the ALS (3).
