The new coronavirus has killed a record 865 people in the United States in the past 24 hours, according to a Tuesday evening count from Johns Hopkins University, which reports.

This strong acceleration brings to 3873 deaths the total balance since the start of the pandemic. The United States is also by far the country with the highest number of cases recorded in the world (188,172), 24,743 more in one day, according to university figures, continuously updated.
The record number of deaths in 24 hours was observed on March 27 in Italy (969 deaths).
