"My home is my castle": The Sterzer sisters actually turned their house into a castle - and not just that. A journey into the fantasy world.
Pliening - Anyone who goes over the doorstep of the house where the sisters Bettina (43) and Katja (41) Sterzer live, enters a different world. No matter whether the corona virus is outside or not. In this house in Pliening, east of Munich, the visitor plunges into the Elbenland, into the Caribbean, enters the Hogwarts magic school and walks through a knight's castle. All under one roof. No, the Sterzer sisters have not set up and opened a museum for which they charge admission. Bettina and Katja Sterzer live in their own themed rooms. The visitor can no longer get out of looking and wondering, it would take days if you took a close look at every detail.

If the visitor looks around in astonishment and whispers an "unbelievable", the two sisters start grinning. "Insane, right?" Bettina Sterzer asks with a wink. The bakery saleswoman says that she has always enjoyed painting and collecting dolls and other things. So at some point she started to design every room differently. The large living room is furnished according to the novel "Lord of the Rings" and the films of the same name. On the walls, under the ceiling, is written in Elvish script and in the translation: "A ring to keep them, to find them all, to drive them into the dark and to bind them forever." The saying on the ring from "Lord of Rings ”is written. Other motifs are painted on the walls, film posters hang. Fantasy figures and dolls are everywhere. There is little to see of the furniture itself. "Doesn't matter and doesn't need it, they're older," says Bettina Sterzer and smiles.
Pliening: Welcome to Hogwarts
She lives on the ground floor, the stairs down take the visitor to Hogwarts, the magic school from “Harry Potter” . "I'm a total Harry Potter fan," says Bettina Sterzer. She painted the coat of arms of Hogwarts on the wall. Hands-free, without templates. Like everything in the whole house: hands-free . "She is really great there," says Sister Katja.
Before going upstairs to the first floor, take a quick look at the laundry room: there are fishing nets and posters showing actor Johnny Depp in pirate outfit. Right, here we are at "Pirates of the Caribbean".
Walked into the Kemenate
But now up to Katja Sterzer, it is already clear on the stairs where the path leads: to a knight's castle. A large room opens up that resembles a kemenate : in the wall there is a large fireplace with an open fire. Wait, but should it crackle? Nothing crackles and smells of fire, after a quick first glance the visitor realizes that the fireplace with fire is painted on the wall. Another work by Bettina Sterzer.
"My home is my castle"
Her sister Katja, who works as a dental assistant, has always been a fan of the Middle Ages and kites , as she explains. There are roughly hundreds of dragon figures in her apartment. Katja Sterzer visits an average of 15 medieval markets a year, with two she takes part in warehouse life herself.
The Sterzer sisters like to be at home not only in times like these, in which exit restrictions apply due to Corona. “My home is my castle” is not just a saying for the two, but a reality. You yourself find it cozy and varied. "When I'm in other apartments or houses and I see the often white walls, I often think to myself: You could ...", says Bettina Sterzer. She ends the sentence with a smile, it is clear what she means: You could bring color in and paint the wall with motifs.
