The corona crisis is bad for the gastro scene in Munich. The operation of bars, restaurants and beer gardens is prohibited. The landlord of the Isarthor inn now has some hope.

  • The corona crisis and the current exit restriction hit shops and taverns in Munich hard.
  • The innkeeper from the Isarthor inn is worried about his existence.
  • But a large brewery is just showing heart.

Munich - Robert Zitzlsperger is a seasoned host and as such has probably not built too close to the water. But since the beginning of the corona crisis, he says, he has had tears in his eyes more than once. Because his regular guests gave him their support, for example - and especially because his brewery doesn't let him down in need. "I'm so happy to have Augustinians as partners who are just proving that there is heart and soul behind it," says the 47-year-old landlord from the "Gasthaus am Isarthor".

Corona in Munich: Brewery sets an example in this situation

He had been in close contact with the brewery's field staff since mid-March. "When we had to lock up, Augustiner picked up the full and empties within a few days and immediately transferred the money for them." A first financial aid that Zitzlsperger can use: "I have already applied for immediate help from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and also short-time work requested. But of course there is still no money because of the flood of applications. "

Zitzlsperger has 15 employees, some of whom he has been tapping the beer behind the bar for over a decade. "Many have small children and you know each other for so long - I couldn't quit anyone because there are so many emotions in it," says the 47-year-old. All the more important is the sign that Augustiner sets. "The brewery waives the entire rent for April, regardless of whether we can open again on the 20th," says Zitzlsperger. In addition, 50 percent of the leases for March are reimbursed.

April fools about the Corona crisis? A high-ranking authority warns against tasteless actions. The Munich Archdiocese is praised for its variant.

"Help is anything but a given"

According to information from our newspaper, around 100 inns that either belong to Augustinians or are leased from the brewery benefit - most of them in Munich. " This help is anything but self-evident and shows that there is a family behind Augustiner and not an international group of millions," says the landlord. Some of his colleagues could only maintain their inns with a lot of creativity. "I have a colleague who drives around in a food truck day and night to make sales." You can see the pity on Zitzlsperger.

But despite the government aid and Augustiner's efforts, resuming business is also a challenge for him. "Football games, trade fairs and tourism are no longer available, and some customers will be scared - it will be tougher," he says. It is all the more important that Munich now buy locally and support their restaurants. Zitzlsperger's guests show their hearts: one of his regulars' tables now meets in front of the cell phone camera every week - but the members wanted to transfer the money that they otherwise spend in business. Zitzlsperger declined the offer - but of course he is pleased with so much loyalty.

Three weeks ago , the Isarthor was still full of zest for life, as demonstrated by an Instagram video.

Zitzlsperger hopes that when the Corona measures are over, many Munich residents will come and toast him again - of course with an Augustinian, freshly tapped from the barrel.
