Exceptional situation, exceptional measure? This is what is demanded by left-wing deputies and some within the Republic marching for undocumented migrants. Following a call from former LREM François-Michel Lambert, around fifteen deputies co-signed a platform to request their regularization in order to ensure their protection during the health crisis. Among them in particular, Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party, Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the Communist Party, or even the macronist Sonia Krimi, on the left wing of the majority.
"The same rights"
The signatories recall in their gallery that Portugal has already temporarily regularized its undocumented migrants until the end of the state of emergency. "We solemnly ask the French government to take the same measures as the Portuguese government , " claim the signatories. They thus demand that undocumented migrants be able to have "the same rights" for "access to care and for financial aid" . "It is a public health measure which protects all the inhabitants of Portugal ," they also say. The health catastrophe we are suffering from means that we must act with responsibility and without delay, as our Portuguese friends did . ”

A leading deputy on the left wing of the majority, Aurélien Taché - who is not among the signatories - was indignant on Thursday on Twitter of France's position on this subject. “While Portugal regularizes its undocumented migrants, France closes its check-in counters for asylum seekers. Faced with the Covid-19 crisis, showing solidarity should not be of variable geometry , ”he wanted to recall.
